ZKsync Loses the Upper Hand
ZKsync’s ZK token launch was anticipated to be one of the biggest airdrops of 2024, fueled by mega-bullish events such as Bitcoin halving, Spot Bitcoin, and Ethereum ETF approval. A positive outcome was expected.
However, investors took a different approach, selling their holdings soon after trading began. According to Nansen’s ZK airdrop dashboard, only 30% of all addresses have held onto all of their assets. Of the remaining 70%, 41% have completely sold their airdropped ZK, while 29% have partially sold their holdings.

So far, addresses have sold about 495.8 million ZK, worth over $109.6 million. Most investors did this to book profits.
While selling in small numbers is common after airdrops, the broader market’s bearishness has led to a larger number of addresses selling to secure their gains.

The crypto market’s volatility appears to impact the potential of significant airdrops, as initial claimants often opt to sell for profit. This trend was evident in March 2023 during the Arbitrum native token ARB’s airdrop.
Following the airdrop, approximately 74% of the claimed ARB coins were sold within days. This skepticism notably affected ARB’s price trajectory, as the altcoin, initially trading at $10.29, plummeted to $1.3 within a week.
Therefore, increasing market volatility and the uncertain regulatory landscape surrounding cryptocurrencies globally seem to be contributing factors to investors’ bearish sentiment.
ZK Price Outlook: Absorbing the Blow, What Comes Next?
ZK began trading on June 17 with an opening price of $0.289, briefly reaching an all-time high of $0.309. However, a subsequent drawdown has persisted, leading to a current decline of 22%.
As of now, ZK is trading at $0.220 and is encountering challenges in finding support for a rebound. Restoring stability may require time, as both excitement and apprehensions surrounding the altcoin need to subside for normal trading conditions to resume.

However, if claimants continue to sell and traders initiate bearish short contracts on the asset, a further price decline is anticipated. The extent of this decline remains uncertain but could potentially drop ZK’s price below $0.20.
