Bitcoin’s recent dip below $65,000 is attributed more to market sentiment and seasonal trends than to Mt. Gox creditors selling their Bitcoin.
CryptoQuant founder Ki Young Ju dismissed concerns about an immediate price drop due to Mt. Gox sales, stating on July 24, “The feared instant dump didn’t happen. Price fluctuations are more likely due to market sentiment.”
Crypto trader “Roman” also dismissed these concerns as “FUD” (fear, uncertainty, doubt).
The price drop, a 2.5% decline over 24 hours, has resulted in the liquidation of $24.68 million in long positions. Bitcoin is currently trading at $64,247 and faces the risk of dropping below another critical support level.

Reasons Behind Bitcoin’s Recent Price Drop
Analysts attribute Bitcoin’s recent price drop to several factors, including seasonal trends, the launch of spot Ether ETFs, and political influences.
Timothy Peterson, founder of Cane Island Alternative Advisors, points to a historical trend where Bitcoin typically underperforms from July 22 to September 22. He notes, “Bitcoin’s seasonal pattern sets up for the often-seen ‘Uptober’ rebound.”
Charles Edwards, founder of Capriole Investments, suggests the recent spot Ether ETF launch on July 23 might be impacting market sentiment negatively. He argues, “The ETH ETF launch has created turbulence, affecting both BTC and ETH negatively. This has muddied institutional-level waters.”
Pseudonymous crypto trader Roman told Cointelegraph that the recent Bitcoin decline is simply a correction following a surge triggered by news of an assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump. He explained, “The initial pump was driven by the news that Trump’s assassination attempt failed and swing states showed him leading. Such news-driven moves often experience significant retracement.”

Despite the recent drop, the overall market sentiment remains bullish, with the Crypto Fear & Greed Index showing a “Greed” score of 68, up seven points over the past week.
